I am a 37 year old female and I have been having strange symptoms for several years now.  I have been to so many doctors and it is so frustrating getting a diagnosis.  I feel for everyone out there that has had to go through this and I will appreciate any advice I can get.

My symptoms are central obesity, stretch marks, supraclavicular fat pads, salivary gland pain, round face with sunburned-looking cheeks, lumpy fat, extreme salt sensitivity/fluid retention, lack of energy, low back pain, kidney stones....the list goes on.  I was recently in the ER for a virus and was told by the ER physician that my chronic symptoms seemed like an adrenal disorder.  He referred me to an endocrinologist who ordered a dexamethasone test.  The results were 1.2 (normal 4.3-22.4).

When I met with the doctor to review the test results, she told me I was just fat and to sign up for Weight Watchers (which I have already tried and it made no difference.  I eat right and exercise and it doesn't seem to matter).  I am so frustrated and ready to get my life and body back.  I just can't believe the doctors that have laughed at me, looked at me like I was from outer space and/or told me I was just fat.  For a long time, only people who knew me could tell something was wrong but now even people who don't know me can tell that I don't look normal or healthy.  So why can't doctors see it??  What do I do to get a diagnosis and treatment??  If adrenal and pituitary disorders are real, valid disorders - why is it so hard for a doctor to diagnose them??  I am so frustrated and at my wit's end.  I will appreciate any and all help I can get.

Thank you,
MelB

" This was the one website i kept returning to thru out my journey with cushings. Thank you Mary O for providing a support center and a plethera of information on this rare disorder! It was so helpful to be able to talk to people and to know that I was not alone! This site and all the people involved in it helped me stay strong and also realize that i was lucky..that many people had endured much more..it gave me hope to know that i could get thru it! It also allowed me to be more knoweledgeable about my disease. Thanks again! "
