My wife is in her mid fifties and is on a disability income and type of insurance. I have always thought that was why she was treated so badly. My wife, for many years, has had what they diagnosed as Rheumtoid Arthritis. She has odd nodules growing on various parts of her body (hands, legs, ankles, etc) so they started her on very strong shot type arthritis meds.
After 3 yrs of this arthritis drug she woke up one morning with a numb thumb. This then spread over the entire right side of her body within a matter of a few hours. After brain MRI's, Spine MRI and a spinal tap the neurologist kinda shrugged his shoulders and said it was probably medication induced MS. This was in early 2007. The numbness has never gone away, she is in constant pain (esp at night) and nodules continue to grow on her body. Late last fall she started an IV arthritis drug and after about 6 treatments she became very dizzy, so much so that she was physically ill. I took her to the ER and they did a brain scan. That doctor said he saw evidence of MS and two strokes. The IV meds were stopped and that has not reoccured.
My wife has other problems too. she had 3 metal stents put into her heart this summer so she is not allowed to have another MRI until at least December of this year. She is also diabetic and was seemingly insulin resistant until recently.
A few months ago her endocrinologist suggested she take a siliva test and that came back inconclusive so they had her take some drug (dexometh something) for one night and get a blood test the next morning. Results of that last month was that she was "1 point over" so probably actually now has Cushings. I am not sure what this 1 point over jazz means and the doc said to repeat the same two tests now this week (results come in next thurs).
I've read the symptoms of Cushings. She is overweight but does not have a moon face, she has stayed approx the same weight for at least the past year, and doesnt appear to have a buffalo hump.
Shes depressed now that they told her she might have cushings of course and in pain every night from what may or may not be a combination of arthritis and the pins and needles feeling from the alledged MS.
For the supposed MS they gave her first neurotin which made her very ill and now has her on an antidepressant supposedly for nerve pain which hasnt helped one bit.
First of all I dont see how its possible for one person to have this many things wrong with her..I dont like the fact that these medical professionals seem to be just guessing and the meds they give her just make her worse, and I have no idea of what to expect if the test is "1 point over" again.
Thanks for listening.
