Greetings-- I am a 58 year old female and will be 59 in January. I have a long history of hypohyroidism and I have been diagnoised with porbable Hashimto's disease.
Currently I take daily medication for that as well as severe chronic depression.
I have a long history of unexplained weight gain and in the last 5 years or so I suddenly changed shapes to frontal obesity and growing pendleous breasts. My husband wasn't so alarmend about the weight gain as that has become a constant, but he said, "I just don't understand why your breasts have continued to grow." Of the symptom list that was posted I have 8 or 9 of them.
I do not have a formal diagnosis of Cushing's syndorme or disease but after I watched "The Science of Obesity" it was very clear to me that it is highly possible that I might. I found scientific explainations for things I have suffered with for way too many years with no help at all despite doctor's best efforts. But, most of them just encourage me to diet and exercise, which doesn't help. What do I do ?
I am not far away from NIH but after that TV program aired I have a great desire to go to LA to see Dr. Friedman. In the last 2 or 3 years I have had an MRI for headaches. It showed not problems except an healing skull fracture behind my rihgt ear as a result of an auto accident. I had no idea. This was ordered by my internist. Could he have missed seeing tumors in the pituitary if he wasn't focusing on that possibility since they can be so small ? Since I had a normal MRI does that mean that there is no possibility of Cushing's ? What other tests are there ? How do I talk with my doctor without looking like a hypochondriac ? I have such a feeling of excitement and hope after viewing "The Science of Obestiy ." These issues have caused major physical and emotional problems many, many years.
My normal adult wieght from high school until I got pregnant w hen I was 34 was 120 lbs. I now weigh between 250 and 255 double my normal weight.
I am so tired and frustrated. I am desperately seeking help/
