I am new to this message board, but not new to Cushings Disease.
After many years of symptoms and many false diagnosis, I was finally diagnosed with Cushings Disease in October of 2002. I had a pituitary macroadenoma removed in January of 2003 very successfully. I thought I was cured. I led a pretty normal life with only some minor blood pressure issues from what the doctors told me was essential hypertension. I had three beautiful healthy children in 2004, 2007, and 2009.
Then, shortly after my third baby was born in December 2009, I began to notice symptoms returning - high blood pressure unable to be controlled with triple my usual dose of medication, weight gain through my midsection, buffalo hump, facial hair growth, insomnia, irritability and anxiety. The list goes on! I finally went to see an endocrinolgist in March 2011 when I couldn't write the symptoms off as "baby weight" and "stress" anymore.
The doctor took one look at me and said I was having a recurrence of Cushings. He told me once they had confirmed with all the tests (dex suppression, MRI, etc) then they would discuss treatment options. I am awaiting a final meeting with the neurosurgeon on Thursday of this week....I am told that they are going to likely remove my entire pituitary gland.
I am afraid....overwhelmed....and lacking information on this as an option. So....here I am.....
